Nikki Teeuw is an artist inspired and propelled by the love of electronica, dance, pop, funk, trip-hop and much more.
Taking inspiration from her many influences, she has developed a style and sound that has become her own.
Originally recording demos with local Hip-Hop DJ’s, Nikki developed a love for dirty beats and funky grooves. She then met Sean Flannery who became her song-writing partner for many years, and led to not only the unique style she has developed but a deeper appreciation for the wonderful world of electronic/dance music. Her quirky and sultry pop melodys and Seans electronic production makes for an addictive combination.
An early online only release from Nikki, RAW, is a classic example. It still generates much public interest and caught the attention of Music Guru Molly Meldrum, who featured Nikki as his Artist of the Month. Since then Nikki has teamed up with other fantastic co-writers and producers, such as Susie Ahern and Dave Soutar, and has developed a richly textured style and sound.
She has an engaging sense of enthusiasm and passion towards her songs and a calm, philosophical attitude towards a sometimes tough music industry.
In 2006, Nikki released her debut EP, GOT MY GROOVE BACK. The EP is available though itunes and has received excellent support from DJ’s and radio. It is currently on high rotation on Melbournes Joy Fm. The title track is soon to have a major remix!
Relationships are the predominate subject in Nikki’s song-writing, and they are deeply explored in her inimitable, insightful way where the message is never lost.
Over the past year or so Nikki has been collaborating with some international DJ’s, such as Rod Di Port, Peter G and Superfreak from Portugal, Roby Mannarini and The Housework Family in Italy, Baldomer and Carl Roda from Spain, and is also involved in a project called Yoyogi Park with DJ Steve Ronan. Click the Yoyogi Park page for information on this exciting new dance project.
Nikki’s second solo cd is now released through itunes and CD Baby. It’s called Strange Butterfly and it is another tremendous dive into the world of relationships and the psyche. From the beginnings to the ends, the frustrations and the rewards. And loads of pop numbers to keep your toes tapping.
Nikki is constantly receiving an increasing amount of support from radio stations and audiences, and is now attracting international attention, so the future is looking very bright! Stay tuned!!!!!
